South African-born Luke Davidson drops his first two singles to radio this week, releasing Million Years and The Lover as a debut musical spectrum. Luke Davidson is unlike most songwriters. The music industry has seen countless artists launch their recording careers in their late teens and early twenties, fuelling the idea that you need to be young to be successful. Davidson breaks this mould and takes the leap in his thirties. Not unheard of though as the likes of Leonard Cohen, Bill Withers, and Debbie Harry (from Blondie) all launched their careers in their thirties. This was never a factor for Davidson who instead waited till he was ready, and it shows in his singles Million Years and The Lover. Listen to ‘Million Years’ – https://soundcloud.com/luke-davidson/million-years Listen to ‘The Lover’ – https://soundcloud.com/luke-davidson/the-lover There’s a clear diversity between the two singles which makes for an interesting introduction to Davidson. Why the different sounds? Davidson explains, saying “Million Years is more a true depiction of where my music has come from. It's truer to the roots of my musical indie rock background. When I’m sitting on my couch at home and playing a few tunes on the guitar, Million Years is the kind of flavour that is created. This is a melodic indie rock song with a hint of Twenty One Pilots energy coming through. When I sat down with the amazing producer Francois de Klerk (who’s worked with the likes of Fokofpolisiekar and Van Coke Kartel) our creative expressions went a little wild creating something completely different to what we normally do, an EDM contemporary deep house track. Listening to TiMO ODV and The…
The multi-award winning rock band, Prime Circle is taking to the road with a nationwide tour exciting fans across South Africa with performances in Namibia, Jo’burg, Durban, Cape Town, East London, George, Plettenberg Bay and more.   The Pretty Like The Sun Tour will include 15 shows from 8 December ‘17 to 7 January ’18. The series of concerts is named off the hot single, Pretty Like The Sun which will follow The Gift as the second most played radio tune from their latest album, If You Don’t You Never Will. If You Don’t You Never Will is Prime Circle’s seventh studio album, and their first new recording since their acclaimed 2014 release Let the Night In, which was repackaged as a deluxe edition in 2016.  Regarded as South African rock royalty, with a string of awards and sold-out concerts to their credit, the band has spent the past couple of years ratcheting up its international profile, building a solid following in the tough-to-crack and discerning German market in particular.  Prime Circle may have secured a German agent and an international recording deal, yet their roots remain firmly lodged in South Africa – which is why they are giving local fans first dibs at hearing their new material. For Prime Circle, though, there’s clearly no time like the present to seize the day – and make the dreams and opportunities happen for themselves.   Prime Circle’s line-up is Ross Learmonth (vocals and guitar); Marco Gomes (bass); Dale Schnettler (drums); Neil Breytenbach (keyboard) and Dirk Bisschoff (guitar).   Catch them live: 8 December – Rumours Rock City (Johannesburg) 19…

Months were spent at the seaside crafting a piece of work that would lay out a path of infinite opportunity.  “It's been a wild ride. We are so humbled by the response and growth of our family. It’s this energetic response that has propelled us forward,” comments frontman, Yanick.  He continues, saying “Pyromaniac is one of our favourites off the album. It's supposed to feel like a rollercoaster ride through the feelings of obsession. We play this song near the end of the set when the fire is at its most lit. Creating music since 2007, Joburg-based Avi G is no newcomer to the music scene. Describing his sound as Pop/Hip Hop, Avi G(real name Avarshan Govender) has worked hard on building his career. Honest, his previous single released with his brother Priv Roc, has been his most successful release to date and achieved success across South African campus radio as well as San Diego college radio. The music video for Honest was filmed by Kyle White and received play on MTV locally (watch the music video here).  ‘Feel It’ is his latest single release and was been a timeous work in progress. Even though the single took longer than expected to write and record, the time spent to perfect it was worthwhile and the addition of Lpee a perfect finishing touch.  How did Avi G discover Lpee? “It was crazy how we met... I was searching for someone with his sound but didn't even know where to start. I tried Google, different sites but it was so hard to find what I was looking for and have them be in the same area so we could get into studio together to be able explain what I wanted him to do on the track... One day I was scrolling on Instagram and saw one of my friends was in studio with Lpee and they posted a video of them jamming to a track they just did. When I heard Lpee's part I instantly knew that’s what I was looking for and he must have been in my area because he was recording with my friend. So, I reached out to…

Listen to the track here.   The anthemic hit Here’s To You celebrates the five years of experience Leven has crafted as a band to sharpen their sound and deliver their strongest single to date.    Front man, Stan Kruger explains the new writing approach, saying "For this song we decided to write with a message in mind and not always just to please the masses. I wrote this song for my mom who has always been my rock and as a single parent sometimes went to bed hungry just so that my sister and I were fed. We want this single to resonate with people and the parents and caregivers they cherish in their lives"   Formed in 2012 and based in Emalahleni, the band took their name Leven from the Dutch word which means 'to live'. The word came about after the band’s drummer heard it in a documentary and the name stuck from there. That one word perfectly summed the central message their music carried. Leven released their debut album ‘Fighting Hearts’ as an experimental release, allowing the band to discover and define their sound while developing as a new act. The debut produced singles ‘Fighting Hearts’ and ‘Take It Back’ which achieved some success for…
We can all agree that good visuals of a song makes it even more interesting to like, the lyrics and beats are all okay but the videos just adds to the perfection which is why most artists go all their way out to making the best music videos they can. A lot counts when judging the visuals of the song, best quality, a sensible story-line, if the music video coincide with the message of the song or if it was well directed and not all over the place include sound effects and special effects. It can take a lot longer than one may think to make a video, so by the time; it’s finished the single might have come out. Artists usually make the video for a subsequent single on the album, that’s why you find that only 3 or 4 songs get to have videos on each album of the artist. The 3 minutes of the video might have taken an artist and his team to master including pre-production, production and post post-production. The music videos listed below are 10 out of many best that have been made great in result they have had a huge number of views on YouTube as compared to others. Even though in SA we haven’t had artists breaking YouTube history like your American Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift who’ve had billions of view we’ve had the best, after all we are still a developing country even in the entertainment sectors. the ledgendary late BRENDA FASSIE'S "VULINDLELA" taking the…

Johannesburg – Just over a week after being released Kwesta’s new track Spirit, which features American rapper Wale, is breaking records. Receiving 370 spins across al radio stations, the track also took the top spot on both Apple Music and iTunes hip-hop and main charts for a second week.  “It feels great! It proves, once again, that the people have my back. All those number 1 spots belong to the people, my job was just to make the song. The people put it at number 1!” an excited Kwesta said in a press statement.
Smith also dropped the Timbaland-produced gospel single "Pray." Sam Smith is ready for his close-up. The singer released the title of his eagerly anticipated second album on Friday morning (Oct. 6), The Thrill of it All, due out Nov. 3, along with the arresting cover image: a black and white close-up of his stubble-covered face. Smith will appear as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this weekend and he dropped a new single, "Pray," to get fans hyped for the performance.  The Timbaland-produced song ups the tempo from the album's first single, "Too Good at Goodbye," but just a bit, adding in a classic stuttering Tim beat and gospel choir backing vocals as the singer laments, "I'm not a saint, I'm more of a sinner/ I don't wanna lose, but I fear for the winners/ When I try to explain, the words run away/ That's why I am stood here today." The track was co-produced by Smith's longtime collaborator, Jimmy Napes, who worked on the album's 10 songs alongside other producers including Malay, Jason "Poo Bear" Boyd and Stargate. Unsigned singer YEBBA is featured on the song "No Peace."
