WONDERboom gave fans a first screening of the ‘Southern Light’ music video during their sets on the Crash Test Dummies tour this past weekend. Now everyone gets to watch it here:

‘Southern Light’ is the most recent single from WONDERboom’s brand new album ‘Rising Sun’ – arguably their strongest release to date – and front man Cito explains the concept of the video, saying “We wanted to create something more abstract with visual candy. Playing around with the concept of the Northern Lights and its magical colours.”

The video was directed, filmed and edited by WONDERboom’s trusted visual “5th member”, Roger Adrian Williams. Performance scenes were shot in front of a green screen for half a day, after which the band shot another video for the upcoming single ‘Praying Mantis’ for the rest of the day.

Undoubtly one of SA’s top live bands, WONDERboom made SA proud in December when they won Top Award, competing against 14 other countries, at the 'Silk Road Indie Music Festival' in Chengdu, China.

Media and Fans across the country celebrated the Gold Award win and were once again reminded why WONDERboom are one of SA’s longest running Rock bands.

ABOUT THE ALBUM RISING SUN
Rising Sun is a triumphant release from WONDERboom and is packed with 11 powerful songs. Album opener Humans launches the album with that distorted guitar-riff driven, kick drum stomping, dirty Rock & Roll sounding, fist-pumping anthem WONDERboom delivers so well. Southern Light is the current single from Rising Sun receiving love across SA radio, and with previous singles Great Escape and Ooh La La already fan favourites, these three singles are just a taste of what Rising Sun holds. The rest of the album is just pure magic listening to singles such as Hell, Praying Mantis, In Place Of Something, and Shark Bite.

WONDERboom are so excited for fans to hear this album! “For the first time EVER, we took our time and were extremely meticulous with the whole production process. Sometimes we’d re-record, other times we’d just scrap, but every song on Rising Sun is meant to be there and pretty much the cream of the crop. First album with Jono on drums. I think fans will get a sense of ‘Damn, you worked hard on this record!’ The attention to detail, the energy, the musicality, the soul… It’s all in there. We had a motto for the album and that was ‘GO THERE!’ No half-arsed attempts at any song. It’s heavy, it’s beautiful, it’s epic,” comments Cito.

WONDERboom have cemented their legendary status. 21 Years in the industry, 8 albums released, headlined many major SA festivals, been nominated for 5 SAMA’s (South African Music Awards), and won a Kanna Award & People Crystal Award in 2003 for South Africa’s hottest band. They also won the South African leg of the 2004 Global Battle of the Bands & came SECOND WORLDWIDE! There can be few South African music fans that aren’t familiar with their hits, like Never Ever, Jafta Rebel, Something Wrong, Green Fever, Africa, Shadows, Charlie, It’s Great to be Alive, Best Side, On The Radio, and Karaoke Bar.

Student Showcase

The long-awaited new song by British pop star Adele has enjoyed a phenomenal start, marking the biggest debut of any video this year on YouTube.

The ballad Hello averaged one million views per hour in the first two days after its release on Friday, with more than 92 million views as of Tuesday afternoon US time.

The video website, in a blog post on Tuesday, said that the debut was the biggest for any video in 2015, surpassing the release of the trailer for Star Wars: Episode XII - The Force Awakens, the latest in the blockbuster science-fiction saga.

Vevo, the video-hosting platform backed by major music labels and YouTube owner Google, said that Hello broke its own record with more than 27 million views in its first 24 hours.

Music industry journal Billboard said that Adele's new single was also on track to beat the record for first-week digital sales of a single in the United States.

Hello is the initial single off 25, Adele's first album in four years, which comes out on 20 November.

Her last album 21 - which featured the heartache song Someone Like You - was the top-seller in the United States for two years in a row and the biggest album by far in Britain in the 21st century.

Adele still has a way to go to break the all-time YouTube record, however.

South Korean star Psy's Gangnam Style, accompanied by an equestrian-like dance that went viral around the world, holds the record at more than 2.4 billion views.
